— Kenmore Headache Treatment
At KVP, we provide specialised physiotherapy for headache and migraine relief, with a strong focus on the upper cervical spine (neck joints).
Headaches are one of the most common health complaints worldwide, with an estimated one in two adults experiencing them each year.
Our experienced and highly trained physiotherapists have a special interest in treatments that influence pain pathways, helping to reduce headache symptoms at their source. Our approach aims to address the underlying cause of headaches and migraines for longer-lasting results.
In many cases, significant improvement can be achieved in as few as 3–5 sessions with our highly skilled physiotherapists.

— Headaches, Migraines and Neck Dysfunction
Many people who think they’re dealing with migraines may actually be experiencing a different condition altogether: a cervicogenic headache, which originates from the neck. Because the symptoms overlap, misdiagnosis is common.
A cervicogenic headache is a secondary headache, which means the pain is caused by another problem rather than starting in the head itself. In this case, the source is the cervical spine (the neck). These headaches usually arise when structures in the upper neck, especially around C1 to C3, send pain signals that are felt in the head. Because of the way the nerves from the upper neck connect with head pain pathways, the brain interprets the pain as a headache even though the real source is in the neck.
Approximately 70% of people who suffer frequent intermittent headaches report associated neck symptoms.

Cervicogenic headaches are one of the most common conditions we treat at Kenmore Village Physio. These headaches originate from the neck and are often linked to posture, muscle imbalance, and joint stiffness.
With many of us spending long hours at desks, on phones, or in the car, poor posture and suboptimal workstation setups are becoming increasingly common. As a result, we’re seeing a growing number of patients presenting with neck pain and headaches that are coming directly from the cervical spine.
The good news? These headaches respond very well to targeted physiotherapy.
At Kenmore Village Physio, our physiotherapists take a thorough and personalised approach to diagnosis.
During your initial consultation, we will:
This allows us to confidently determine whether your headaches are cervicogenic in nature and rule out other causes that may require further medical investigation.
Migraines are often described as a throbbing or pulsating pain, usually on one side of the head, although both sides can be affected. The pain can range from moderate to severe and often becomes worse with movement, making even simple daily tasks feel overwhelming.
A migraine can last anywhere from 4 hours to 72 hours if left untreated.
Some people experience only one or two migraines a year. Others may suffer several each month, or even multiple times a week.
Migraine symptoms can vary from person to person, but often include:
Around one-third of migraine sufferers also experience aura, which may appear before or during the migraine.
Migraines can have a major impact on quality of life. During an attack, normal activities such as working, exercising, driving, or even being in a bright or noisy environment can become difficult.
When migraines are recurring and left unmanaged, they can affect your energy, mood, sleep, and ability to function day to day.
For many people, migraines are linked with tension, stiffness, or dysfunction through the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Physiotherapy can play an important role in identifying and addressing these contributing factors.
At Kenmore Village Physio, treatment may include:
Our goal is not just to treat symptoms in the moment, but to help you feel more in control and better equipped to manage migraines over the long term.
