Common Questions

Dry needling (also known as trigger point needling or intramuscular stimulation) involves inserting a very fine needle into tight or dysfunctional muscles.

The goal is to:

  • Release muscle tension
  • Reduce pain
  • Restore normal muscle function

When the needle targets an active trigger point, you may feel a brief “twitch response” — this is a good sign that the muscle is releasing.

Dry needling targets tight, sensitive areas within muscles that often develop due to:

  • Injury
  • Overuse
  • Poor posture
  • Muscle imbalances

By stimulating these areas, dry needling helps:

  • Decrease muscle tightness
  • Improve blood flow

Reset normal muscle activation

Yes — when performed by a trained physiotherapist, dry needling is very safe.

At our clinic:

  • We use single-use, sterile needles
  • Treatment is performed by qualified professionals
  • Most patients experience minimal discomfort

You may feel mild soreness afterwards (similar to post-exercise soreness), which usually settles within 24–48 hours.

While both use fine needles, they are quite different:

Dry Needling

  • Based on modern anatomy and physiology
  • Targets muscles and trigger points
  • Focuses on pain relief and movement

Acupuncture

  • Based on traditional Chinese medicine
  • Targets energy pathways (meridians)

Focuses on restoring energy balance
