— About This Condition

What Is Osteoarthritis?

Living with osteoarthritis doesn’t mean giving up the activities you enjoy. With the right rehabilitation, physiotherapy and exercise can reduce pain, improve movement and help you stay active for longer.

At Kenmore Village Physio, we don’t simply treat arthritis—we help people move better, stay active and maintain their independence through expert assessment, personalised rehabilitation and evidence-based care.

Why Has My Arthritis Become Painful?

Osteoarthritis affects the whole joint—not just the cartilage. Pain doesn’t always match what appears on an X-ray; many people have significant arthritis with very little pain, while others experience considerable symptoms despite only mild changes. At Kenmore Village Physio, we don’t treat your scan—we treat you.

Contributing factors may include previous injury, muscle weakness, reduced mobility, increased joint loading and body weight — many of which can be improved through physiotherapy and exercise.

Not always. Osteoarthritis can often be diagnosed through a thorough physiotherapy assessment. Imaging is usually recommended only when the diagnosis is unclear or further investigation is needed.

For many people, yes. Physiotherapy and regular exercise can successfully manage osteoarthritis for years. If surgery does become appropriate, we'll help you prepare before surgery and guide your rehabilitation afterwards.
